Program Details

Session 1 ~ September 27, 2007
Writing Your Story: How to begin and sustain your writing practice
Through a lively session in which we'll write mini-memoirs, short fables and manifestos, we'll discuss stages of the writing process and learn how to see ourselves as writers. For this first session, Frances will be joined by renowned writing instructor, Carmine F. "Chick" Chickadel.

Session 2 ~ November 29, 2007
Reading with a Writer's Eye: How to read for more than meaning
We'll imitate and be inspired by the style and syntax (and the sizzle!) of master writers and learn ways to bring reading more actively into our writing lives and the lives of our students.

Session 3 ~ January 31, 2008
Writing into Your Community: Exploring how writing can deepen your connections to life beyond the classroom
In this evening's gathering, we'll explore how your writing can inspire a school community's conversation and decision-making processes. We'll also extend the dialogue into a larger civic realm by teaching absolute beginners how to write op-ed pieces.
